A Reflection-type Amplitude Hologram as a Collimating Element in the Compact Antenna Test Range

چکیده
In this paper, we study the possibility to use an amplitude hologram as a reflection-type collimating element to produce a plane wave in the compact antenna test range (CATR). So far, we have used holograms as transmissiontype elements only. The hologram studied here has a diameter of 600 mm and it operates at the frequency of 310 GHz. It is a computer-generated slot pattern etched on a thin metal-plated dielectric film. We have simulated and measured the plane wave field reflected from the hologram. The maximum measured ripples are only 1.6 dB and 20°, peak-to-peak. The reflection-type hologram has some advantages over the transmission-type one. For example, the power loss is about 4 dB lower for the reflection-type hologram. In addition, a CATR based on the reflection-type hologram can be situated in a much smaller space. To demonstrate the capability of the reflection-type hologram in actual antenna testing, the radiation pattern of a small reflector antenna was measured at 310 GHz.

A Compact Antenna Test Range Based On A Hologram - Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Transactions on
The application of conventional reflector-type compact antenna test ranges (CATR’s) becomes increasingly difficult above 100 GHz. The main problems are the tight surface accuracy requirements for the reflectors and, therefore, the high manufacturing costs. These problems can be overcome by the use of a hologram type of compact range in which a planar hologram structure is used as a collimating ...

متن کاملInstrumentation and Testing of Submillimeter Wave Compact Antenna Test Ranges
Testing of antennas in submillimeter wave (>300 GHz) compact antenna test ranges (CATRs) has some specific problems that do not appear with conventional millimeter wave CATRs. The available transmitter power is very low, usually in the range of a few milliwatts. Also, the atmospheric attenuation due to water vapour absorption at certain frequency bands can be very high. For these reasons the CA...

A compact printed fractal antipodal bow-tie antenna is designed and implemented to simultaneously cover the operations in the C, X, and Ku-bands. It is demonstrated that by addition of small fractal elements at the sides of hexagonal arms of the bow-tie, a wide operating frequency range of 3.3 to 19.1 GHz can be covered while antenna size is only 30×34×1.2 mm3. In order to match the antenna to ...
